Polyaminapropyl Biguande: used widely in contact lens solution. The molecular structure is to big to penetrate the skin so this preservative can't enter the body.

Potassium Sorbate: food grade preservative

INDUSTRY SECRETS ABOUT PRESERVATIVES

1. There is a preservative on the market with the name of "Fragrance" which does not disclose the actual ingredients. The chemicals are hidden within itself, and act as a broad spectrum broad spectrum preservative. This is found in some of the biggest "natural" lines.

2. There are many products on the market that FAIL microbial testing and grow yeast, mold, bacteria, and fungus quickly. When the company is asked why they are still making the efficiacy claims they are, the manufacturers simply state "they passed OUR testing requirements"

3. Some companies do not fully disclose their ingredient list. This is common of many companies because they feel the need to protect their formulas. Their products DO NOT LIST any known preservative, yet they pass all microbial testing. What chemicals are they using that they are not telling you about?

4. Some manufacturers purchase ingredients that have already been preserved. This allows them to avoid listing the chemicals because they did not originally add them. Also some extracts are made in propylene or butyl glycol base and are themselves preserved with parabens, triclorisan, or urea. Unfortunately, these chemicals do not need to be disclosed because they are considered processing aides.

5. Beware of the term "preservative-free". There are many NEW chemicals that have made it through loop-holes in the system and are not YET called preservatives. This allows companies to use them and label their products "preservative-free", though harmful chemicals have been incorporated in their products.

On a positive note, formulas that do not contain any water may only need antioxidants to preserve them.
